22 playful + productive + passion-stoking things to do, this September.

STUPENDOUS SEPTEMBER!

Back to school, back to basics, back to brilliance.

There’s a crackle of electricity in the air. And just a tinge of mania.
‘Tis the season to crack open a fresh book, find a paradigm-shifting mentor, revamp + rewire …
or simply try something new, for the sheer pleasure of intellect-sharpening.

If you need a little rut-breaking, risk-taking, heart-shaking inspiration, here’s my GO-list.
Get into it.

22 playful + productive + passion-stoking things to do, this September.

ϟ Craft a pristine + precise personal introduction, once + for all. Test it out on a gathering of toddlers. If they’re confused about what you do, most grown-ups will be, too.

ϟ Choose not to agonize about the shape or weight of your body for a month (trust me, you’re gorgeous) and instead, focus on something simple + non-angsty. Declare September to be the month of Excellent Posture! Or Adequate Hydration! Or Lustrous, Well-Conditioned Locks!

ϟ Ask yourself, “What am I bored of?” Let the answer guide you into thoroughly un-boring turf.

ϟ Be complicated. And don’t apologize about it.

ϟ Get a library card, already.

ϟ Find your Life Theme — and your Final-Breath Battle Cry.

ϟ Prowl through every last page of your website or blog and hunt for out-dated + inaccurate anachronisms (“Coming soon — in summer 2003!”). Clean up + shine.

ϟ Use A Better Queue to find streaming Netflix movies that match your interests + genre preferences! Foreign Romantic Sci-Fi Thriller, anyone?

ϟ Thank — really thank — your hardworking local barista. Then give them $5 and ask them to ‘surprise’ you, with a signature concoction.

ϟ Awaken your inner business adviser – that sagacious, centered voice that never leads you astray. Register for a free introductory lesson on September 7th, with the magnificent Hiro Boga.
Prepare to astonish … yourself.

ϟ Plot out your entire 2013 — and experiment with scheduling WIDE-OPEN days, weeks or months for personal passion projects (or unexpected magic).

ϟ Acquire a piece of luxe body armor. How very Joan of Arc!

ϟ Shake up your undergarment routine with a pair of POSITIVE PANTIES! Oh yes!
The project is still in the early stages, but a little birdie tells me the shop will be full of feisty pantaloons very soon. (This is one of those bookmark-the-site-get-on-the-list kinda moments.)

ϟ Read Stephen Fry’s latest memoir installment, The Fry Chronicles. Keep a dictionary handy.
You’ll learn about 400 new words.

ϟ Write a really good, really true story. Y’know … about those crazy, amazing, touching and totally unbelievable-but-ordinary experiences that happen to you, every day. (Laurie Wagner’s Telling True Stories e-course is a perfect place to hone your craft. It all starts September 10th.)

ϟ Give $20 to a friend + ask them to mail it you, in six months time. (Snail mail is practically a mystical art, these days.)

ϟ Write a bonafide FAN LETTER to someone you admire. Gush away — but keep it classy.

ϟ Commission a professional portrait of yourself. I thoroughly recommend the immensely talented (and, in my opinion, far-too-cheaply-priced) Aurora Armijo.

ϟ Grab a gigantic fuschia pen + draw a heart around Fri, Feb 8th, 2013. That’s the first day of my first-ever CANADIAN writing workshop. It’ll be 3 days of winter wonderment, with guided wordsmithery (and yoga lessons!) in northern Alberta. Registration details coming in late September. Namast-yay!

ϟ Buy a pair of Jessica Swift’s glorious, disco-tastic rainboots. You’ll be supporting charity : water, when you do. Splish-splash!

ϟ Awaken your Wild Mind, talk to angels, and surf through reality with a spirit of curiosity + enchantment — in Amy Oscar’s Soul Caller Training. (I’m doing the program this September, and I can. not. wait. to begin…)

ϟ Commit a new mantra to memory. Reframe an old anxiety. Let it be secret + playful.

And now, a brief word from our sponSOAR . . .

A holistic cosmetic surgeon + bestselling author walk into a bar. (Well — a virtual recording studio.) So, what do they talk about?

Fires, desires, soul, sustenance, beauty … and boys, of course. (What could be better?)

Earlier this year, Dr. Susan Mathison hosted a fascinating online event — The Beauty Freedom Summit.

18 perspectives from 18 different women on one universal topic — BEAUTY.

18 conversations on defining, creating + embodying beauty — without judging ourselves for loving what we love + wanting what we want.

HEAD OVER HERE + sign up to receive a free taste of the Summit — a fireside chat between Dr. Susan + the sublime Danielle LaPorte.

And, if you’re hungry for more, you can own the entire collection of Beauty Freedom Summit conversations — featuring dialogues with Baeth Davis, Kristi Frank, Forbes Riley, Fabienne Fredrickson + Vicki Irvin — for just $27. That’s a special ‘Friends of Franzen’ pricetag (the usual rate is $67).

Alexandra, you are a life-saver. I love you.

Took your advice and finally crafted a first draft of that personal statement:

I’m a theatre entrepreuneur, photographer, and tarot card reader. I
use my art to give a voice to the voiceless and face to the faceless
and my spiritual guidance to empower people to use their own voices.
At my core, I just want to inspire love, passion, and equality. What
inspires those things in you?

Great suggestions overall!

So stoked that your workshop is going to be in Alberta! Normally the default is Toronto or Vancouver, but I’m up here in Edmonton with limited funds, so travel is rarely an option. Can’t wait for more details at the end of the month!

And thanks for this list, you’re a gem.

The first thing I’m doing tomorrow is working on my personal introduction. This is something I’ve been meaning to do, and this post was just the push I needed!

CECILIA :: You are most welcome.

KATY SNOW :: That is a HOT introduction! Nicely done.

KELSEY ANN :: Yeeeeah! Northern wonderment. I can’t wait.

KAHEA :: Do it to it!
